2004 Distinguished Award Winners

Stella Hull with Tom Kispaugh, Past President

Stella Hull -- Secondary Distinguished Educator

Stella Hull received her BA in Comprehensive Business Education from Cleveland State and her M.Ed. from Kent State in Instructional Computing. She has taught in Career Prep and Business Departments at Cleveland Heights High for the past 16 years.

As OBTA's current second Past President, Stella served in all officer chairs in the Cleveland Area Business Teachers Association and is current president of the Delta Zeta Chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon. She is active in NBEA and has volunteered her services on convention committees. Stella is also an advisor for Business Professionals of America where she served as regional advisor, competitive events chair and on the Classroom Education Advisory Committee.

Ms. Hull has received the 2004 Cleveland Area Business Teachers Association's Dr. Lucille Wright Secondary Teacher Distinguished Service Award and she has been honored nationally for service to Business Professionals of America. In addition, she has been honored by Cleveland Rotary Club for excellence in Business Education.

Joy Dougherty with Tom Kispaugh, Past President

Joy Dougherty -- Post-Secondary Distinguished Educator
Professor Joy Dougherty is a full-time faculty member in the Business Technology Department at the University of Toledo since 1985. Joy earned an M.Ed. in Business Education at The University of Toledo. She has taught in the Administrative Office Technology and Computer Information Technology programs and has served as Chair of the Business Technology Department.

In 2002 Joy was awarded a grant from the Division for Distance Learning to develop a new online course, MOUS Certification Concepts. She is a Certified Master Instructor for Microsoft Office applications and has earned the Certified Professional Secretary and Certified Manager ratings. She was nominated for the Outstanding Teacher Award at the University of Toledo.

Joy holds professional memberships in NEA, OBTA, PiLambd Theta, and CPS Academy. Recently Joy was elected president of the Toledo Zone, Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

Shunda Wright with Tom Kispaugh, Past President


Shunda Wright -- 004 Business Technology Accomplishment Award Winner

Shunda Wright offers over ten years of corporate experience to enlighten and encourage students in the classroom. One of her colleagues comments that Shunda "provides real world scenarios, she helps her students understand how to successfully apply these lessons in their own work experience." She used her real world business knowledge to propel her into a new career in Business Technology Education.

Shunda received a BS in Secondary Education Vocational Business from the University of Akron. Ms. Wright's teaching career began in 2001 at Bedford High School where she has written and received two grants funding "Onward to Excellence" etiquette training. She tries new teaching methods, activities and projects that will challenge her students. She advises students and assists in Business Professionals of America and serves as BPA's Region 18 representative on the Classroom Educators Advisory Committee.

An administrator for the Bedford City Local School District said of Ms. Wright "Her sense of humor, caring attitude, and willingness to serve her profession and its students are a welcome respite in a world that does not always value education. She values it."
